Our Why
95% of diets fail with all or more of any lost weight ultimately regained. That's a staggering and very sad rate of failure.
And we know why weight loss doesn't last for the vast majority of dieters...because most people think it needs to be harder than it really is.
The diet cycle is so common that most people come to accept it as an intermittent way of life for them. They convince themselves over time that they don't have what it takes to be thin; that they're not worthy of being happy with their weight.
All this takes a toll on self-esteem, which only makes weight loss all the more difficult.
Anyone can lose weight in the short-term. Bouts of willpower and motivation can see pounds melting away. But willpower and motivation use energy. And as energy depletes weight loss gets harder to maintain.
At the same time, an inner conflict is taking place. You might have spent years behaving like, and believing you are, an overweight person - unworthy of being thin. That becomes your self-identity.
When you jump into a new set of behaviours - like restricted eating and intense exercise - these actions are at odds with the person you have come to believe you are.
So willpower and motivation are declining just as this nagging inner conflict - a sense of mental resistance - is on the increase.
It's easy to see why so many diets fail!
So what's the solution? You have to align your self-identity with your behaviours.
Self-identity is built upon evidence and, in-turn, informs future decisions. In simple terms, negative evidence - skipping the gym for example - negatively affects self-identity. Feeling bad about yourself makes it less likely you'll go on to make positive decisions - like eating healthily - creating a negative feedback loop.
The problem with jumping into a restrictive diet and intense workout plan is that it's sufficiently hard work (and, let's face it, it feels temporary from the outset) that it doesn't create enough evidence of a new self-identity.
That's why we developed a game-based mindset training program - based on the work of behavioural specialists, psychology professors and nutrition and fitness experts - which promotes practice of the behaviours that enable long-term weight loss through play.
Practice through play is effective because it fosters engagement without fear of failure. It means that you can quickly build up a pattern of winning behaviours, gently reshaping your self-identity and easing that sense of resistance that causes so much failure.
Once you start building up the right mindset and pattern of behaviours, weight loss and long-term weight management won't feel so difficult. That's when you gain control over your weight and can start to enjoy life without the cloud of weight-related guilt constantly hanging over you.
We want everyone to achieve this.
It absolutely is within your reach. You have nothing to lose but the excess weight ;)
We wish you the best of luck on your journey.
